THAILAND – Taiwanese bioplasics compounder and equipment supplier Minima Technology Co Ltd and Thai Plastic Bag Industries Co Ltd (TPBI), one of Thailand’s largest plastic film manufacturers, are establishing a joint venture for bioplastics production in Thailand.

CHINA – Chinese biomaterials company Tianjin GreenBio Materials Co Ltd has confirmed an agreement supplying PHA biopolymers to US’s Metabolix Inc.
In addition, Tianjin GreenBio is expanding its sales markets by appointing Metabolix as exclusive distributor in the Americas, as well as one of its distributors in Europe.

Australian Court rules Northern Territory’s container deposit scheme illegal

AUSTRALIA – The Australian Federal Court has ruled that the Northern Territory’s container deposit scheme is illegal and does not apply to containers imported into the area.
Introduced in January 2012, the Northern Territory’s deposit system refunds consumers 10 cents when they return plastic and other containers at collection depots.
World’s lightest plastic milk bottle

UK - Nampak Plastics has created what it claims is the world’s lightest ever four-pint (2.273 litres) high density polyethylene bottle.
Weighing in at just 32g, the HDPE bottle – which is currently undergoing trials with a number of Nampak’s customers – represents a 20% material saving on the standard four-pint version found in most supermarkets today, which weighs about 40g.
