UK – Independent wine supplier Kingsland Wines and Spirits will be filling paper wine bottles with various wines by the end of this year for supermarket sale.
Developed by UK packaging company GreenBottle, the paper wine bottles – known as GreenBottles – comprise a paper outer layer and a thin plastic lining. According to the converter, it weighs 55g compared with the average 750ml glass bottle’s weight of 400g, and offers a lower carbon footprint and reduced transportation costs.
In addition, the company’s innovative flexible pulp-moulding technology allows for excellent shelf presence. Brand owners also have more branding options now, as the paper bottles can be directly printed on, unlike glass bottles.
Consumers will also enjoy the GreenBottle’s ability to keep chilled wine cooler for longer on the table.
Touting the GreenBottle as the world’s such paper wine bottle, inventor and GreenBottle founder Martin Myerscough said, “Kingsland are an ideal partner as, not only are they the UK’s premier wine supplier, they are committed to sustainability too.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing wine in GreenBottles both in the UK and in other countries over the next few months.”
