UK - According to a statement from the British Retail Consortium, the plastic bag has become symbolic but it is not the great environmental evil some would have us believe, and to obsess over bags distracts consumers from making bigger changes to their habits which would do more to benefit the environment.

UK: Cotton shopping bags are 200 times more damaging to the environment than HDPE supermarket bags according to a recently released controversial report into the impact of plastic bags on global warming and the environment by the British Government’s Environment Agency that appears to contradict studies from other UK agencies.
