SINGAPORE –
Major domestic supermarket retailer NTUC FairPrice says it has saved more than 46.5 million plastic grocery bags since it launched its bring-your-own-bag initiative eight years ago.

In 2007, FairPrice introduced its FairPrice Green Rewards Scheme, which involves offering consumers a small financial incentive to encourage them to bring their own grocery bags. Since then, it has given out more than S$2.3 million in rebates – which works out to more than 46.5 million plastic bags saved.
