TAIWAN – A ruling Kuomintang legislator has called for a ban on the use of styrofoam instant noodle bowls in Taiwan over health safety concerns.
Australian Court rules Northern Territory’s container deposit scheme illegal

AUSTRALIA – The Australian Federal Court has ruled that the Northern Territory’s container deposit scheme is illegal and does not apply to containers imported into the area.
Introduced in January 2012, the Northern Territory’s deposit system refunds consumers 10 cents when they return plastic and other containers at collection depots.
Vietnam reconsiders plastic bag tax

VIETNAM – To help the struggling domestic plastic packaging industry, the Ministry of Finance has recommended abolishing the Environmental Protection Tax on plastic bags, and refunding last year’s payments.
On 1 January 2012, the Vietnamese government imposed an Environmental Protection Tax on all plastic bags used to contain goods, as part of moves to cut the use of plastic bags in supermarkets and shopping malls by 40% by 2015.
Philippines city moves to ensure compliance with plastic packaging ban

PHILIPPINES – The Makati City government has been sending out inspection teams to business establishments to ensure they are complying with regulations to gradually reduce the number of plastic and Styrofoam containers in their inventory, as the city prepares for a full ban on these types of packaging in June 2013.
