THAILAND - Corbion has completed the pre-engineering for a PLA polymerization plant in Thailand and announced that it is entering the basic-engineering phase.
The Dutch company said it commenced with pre-engineering in 2015, following “strong customer interest in PLA”.
“We have now obtained the necessary technical and financial validation for such a plant,” explained Tjerk de Ruiter, CEO of Corbion.
Located in the Thai province of Rayong at the existing Corbion site, the plant will have an annual capacity of 75 kT producing a complete portfolio of PLA polymers, ranging from standard PLA to innovative high-heat resistant PLA from 2018.
Additionally, Corbion will expand its existing lactide plant in Thailand by 25 kTpa.
