O-I names new president of Asia Pacific glass packaging business operations, Owens-Illinois Inc (O-I), Asia packaging, Australia, New Zealand
Owens-Illinois Inc (O-I) has appointed Tim Connors as president of O-I Asia Pacific.

The appointment took effect from 1 June 2015, and sees Connors replacing Sergio Galindo – who was president of Asian operations since 2012, and has now been moved to the new position of president of O-I North America.

Prior to the promotion, Connors was general manager of O-I's Australian operations, which drive the largest portion of O-I's business in the region.

As president of O-I Asia Pacific, Connors will be responsible for O-I's business in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and China, as well as the company's joint venture interests in Malaysia and Vietnam.

In his 18-year career at O-I, Connors has served in a variety of finance, manufacturing and business strategy roles. Prior to being named general manager of O-I Australia, he was vice president of finance for the Asia Pacific region for three years.

Andres Lopez, O-I chief operating officer and president of glass containers, commented, "Galindo has done an excellent job enhancing our Asia-Pacific region's capabilities to better face very challenging market conditions, and we are confident he will support and encourage the strong operational focus we are undertaking in our North American region."

He added, "Tim has proven to be a remarkably flexible and insightful leader. As a member of the Asia Pacific leadership team for the past four years, he is very familiar with the market dynamics of the region, as well as our operations there. As general manager of O-I Australia, he strengthened the competitive position of our Australian business - particularly the wine and beer segments - through footprint realignment, customer engagement and a focus on total cost.

“His background and experience in multiple regions make him ideally suited to lead our business in Asia Pacific."
