CHINA – Global consumer goods brand owner Procter & Gamble (P&G) is investing another US$7.31 million (CNY50 million) to expand the production capacity of its sanitary products plant in Xiqing district, in the northern province of Tianjin.
With the additional investment, P&G hopes to make the Xiqing facility the company’s largest manufacturing base in the Asia Pacific region. When completed, the expanded plant will be able to accommodate 13 production lines that together have an annual capacity of 100 million cases.
This will help P&G meet increasing demand for sanitary products in China and other Asian countries.
Currently, the Xiqing facility has a total factory area of 500,000 square metres managed by 800 employees for the manufacture of its Whisper branded products. It had been expanded as recent as two years ago when P&G invested US$28.96 million (CNY198 million) in the plant to ramp up production.
Construction of the Xiqing factory first started in May 1996, and was completed in August 1998.
