Oji to build new corrugated container plant in Vietnam
Japanese paper giant Oji Group has announced plans to invest US$25.6 million (¥3 billion) in a new corrugated container factory in Vietnam, bringing the total number of manufacturing facilities it has in the country to five.

“With the steady growth of the Vietnamese economy, and the abundance of labour, many manufacturing companies are increasing their investment in Vietnam,” said Oji. “The construction of the new factory corresponds with the market demand increase of corrugated containers in Southern Vietnam.”

Located in the VSIP-II Industrial Park in Binh Duong province, the new facility will be operated by Ojitex (Vietnam) Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oji. The site will have a production capacity of 42 million square metres per annum, and is expected to start operating in January 2016.

The new factory will be equipped with high-graphic printing equipment, and together with the offset printing business of United Packaging – which it acquired last year – Oji says the plant will be able to meet market demand for high-graphic corrugated container.

“In the Southeast Asian packaging market, there is a trend towards colourful printing. Decorative products demand is also increasing in corrugated box products,” noted Oji.

In Southeast Asia, Oji currently has 19 manufacturing sites, including a new factory in Myanmar scheduled to start production this May. With the addition of the new Vietnam plant, Oji will have a total of 20 manufacturing sites in the region, which Oji says it is “especially promoting capturing package demand”.
