INDONESIA – Following the implementation of a new law that requires tin be traded on a local exchange before shipment restricted cargoes, Indonesian tin exports have dropped to the lowest levels in six years.
MALAYSIA – Local tinplate supplier Persaduran Timah Malaysia Bhd's (Perstima) proposal to the Malaysian government for an anti-dumping duty on tinplate imports has been met with fierce protests from the Malaysian Tin Can Manufacturers Association (MTCMA) which argues that it will raise canned food and beverage prices.
INDONESIA – A number of domestic food and beverage manufacturers are calling on the Indonesian Antidumping Commission (KADI) to halt its anti-dumping investigations into plastic PET packaging material imports from China, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.
CHINA – The Ministry of Commerce has ended an anti-dumping investigation into US coated ivory cardboard imports.
VIETNAM – Domestic paper consumption is expected to hit 3 million tonnes this year, way above the local paper production capacity of 2.18 million tonnes, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), which wants to cut the country’s costly dependency on paper imports.
MALAYSIA – Malaysia has started levying anti-dumping taxes on the import of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Taiwan for five years until 23 April 2018.
