DENMARK –
Eggs Posure has introduced a creative packaging concept for the egg industry, which doubles up as a toy for children.

Eggyplay is an innovative colourful plastic egg carton that works in the same manner as clickable building blocks, fitting perfectly together like large duplo blocks

Not only does this enhance stackability and product protection during transportation, after use as packaging for eggs, the Eggyplay cartons can be used by children as building blocks for play.

According to Eggs Posure - a young packaging company founded by Dutch packaging converter Twinpack BV and Danish food producer Hedegaard Foods A/S - the EggyPlay cartons are sustainable because they have dual functions - they are not discarded but are given a second lease of life as a toy.

Each carton also weighs less than a traditional egg carton and, thanks to its intelligent design, takes up half the stacking space and makes transport twice as efficient.

To ensure the cartons could carry out their dual functions, Eggs Posure had to ensure that they would receive approval as a children’s toy and obtain CE certification.

Mette Due Andersen, Marketing Manager of Hedegaard Foods, explained, “Our Eggyplay cartons must be dishwasher-proof as well as resistant to repeated exposure to high temperatures, moisture and detergents.

“We soon made the decision to use Verstraete IML’s dishwasher-proof IML labels. And the labels are produced with dishwasher-proof inks and a special layer of varnish. This offers optimal protection for the colours and the quality of the IML label during repeated washes.”
