USA –
A San Francisco based service that provides premium prepared dinners from top local chefs, delivered to customers’ door, has redesigned their packaging with a focus on sustainability and functionality while not compromising on design aesthetics.

Munchery previously used plastic packaging to pack and deliver its dinners to customers. However, prior to consumption, customers needed to follow the method recommended by its chefs and heat the food up in the oven – something which could not be done using the plastic food trays.

“We used to have ugly plastic packaging, that aside from being bad for the environment, it also didn't work in the oven - which is the way most of our chefs recommend heating up their food. So customers used to have to do an awkward transfer into something oven safe,” explained Munchery.

“Well not anymore. Our new containers are microwave and oven safe. Made from renewable and sustainably sourced plant fibers (bamboo & sugarcane mix), they are compostable and biodegradable.”Premium food delivery service shifts to microwavable sustainable packaging, Munchery, Asia packaging, USA, food packaging

The company tried to shift to a completely non-plastic packaging solution but was unfortunately unable to source a good alternative for its container lids. Hence, it decided to use plastic lids that are made entirely of recycled plastic bottles, and 100% recyclable.

“To bring it all together is the lovely, colorful sleeve. It provides key structural support and allows our lids and containers to work together at 100%,” added Munchery. “They are made from sustainably sourced, non-virgin paper that is SFI & FSC certified, as are our bags.

"From biodegradable trays made of renewable plants to paper and plastic products from recycled materials, we’re greening our footprint in every way.”
