The House of Lords has approved a bill to standardise cigarette packaging in England from May 2016, passing the final legislative hurdle for plain cigarette packaging in the country.

In early-March, the House of Commons voted 367 to 113 in favour of cigarette packaging that is uniform in shape, size and design, featuring only the brand name in an identical standard font and graphic health warnings. All trademarks, graphic designs and logos will be disallowed from cigarette packs.
